The SCGA relies on numerous volunteers to help administer various programs and activities, and assist with championships, course ratings and handicapping.
Handicap Chair are responsible for administering the USGA Handicap System at their respective club. The position requires a substantial amount of time and all Chair must complete the SCGA Handicap Certification Class to be SCGA Certified. Contact handicap@scga.org for more information.
SCGA Junior, the charitable arm of the SCGA, is looking for volunteers to assist with administrative tasks such as mailings, organization, filing, and data entry and tracking. Volunteer hours and times are flexible and we will work with your schedule. There is not a minimum time commitment.
As you may know, SCGA Junior works diligently to use the community’s donations directly toward program initiatives such as the Golf Pass, Grant Giving, Scholarships, educational golf materials, and Club Outings. Currently the organization allocates 85% of all donations to programming and with your help we can continue to keep administrative costs down.

Championships & Golf Operations volunteers provide assistance administering SCGA tournaments, assisting with pace of play, Rules interpretations, scoring and starting. Volunteers must have a strong interest in the Rules of Golf and tournament officiating.

Looking for qualified rules officials to work your golf tournament? The SCGA can assist you! Our mission is to lead, serve and advance amateur golf in Southern California. If you need assistance with the administration of your event, we are happy to relay that message to our volunteer force.

The Course Rating team aids the SCGA with measuring and rating more than 400 SCGA member courses using the USGA Course Rating System. The majority of their time is spent measuring distances to various obstacles from specific landing areas based on shot parameters to create a course and slope rating for each set of tees. Club Delegates serve as a liaison between the SCGA and its member clubs. Delegates are regularly updated on all SCGA activities to ensure member clubs receive the full benefits of their membership. The Delegate is asked to keep club members and officers up-to-date on any important information and serves an important role providing a line of communication between the SCGA and its members. The SCGA is governed by a volunteer-based board of directors. The directors represent all facets of the association’s membership including private, public and affiliate clubs which hail from the various regions the association services. The board works with the staff at the SCGA to guide the association in promoting and protecting the spirit of the game by offering a wide array of member services.
San Diego Junior Golf Association
For over 50 years the SDJGA has relied heavily on dedicated volunteers who are committed to providing a safe and fun environment for our junior golfers. The SDJGA is always looking for individuals who are interested in assisting staff with tournament operations, rules, fundraising and event planning.
