  • Having my daughter compare hers to mine, and brag about her having a better Index

  • Unification of  WSCGA with SCGA

  • To bring a fair & equitable golf game together with friends and enjoy competition if you want.

What would you tell juniors to interest them in the game of golf?

  • It is something you can play all your life with friends, family, business. It can help you with anything you decide to do as an occupation and you will have fun doing it.

Favorite benefit of keeping a Handicap Index:

  • Competing with myself & improving my game.

Do you volunteer elsewhere (inside or outside of golf)?

  • Other professional tournaments like The Genesis .I like learning and working in different areas like the cart barn and greeters/ concierge. First Tee for the arrive, Chip, Putt contests.

  • Off and on for 40 years. Consistently for 15 years.

  • Play by the rules and the spirit of the game

  • No need to call a friend like in other sports. You can go solo or with friends/team.

  • It allows me to chase a lower handicap index. Built in motivator to improve!

  • PGA of America committee member, USGA, PGA and LPGA championships.

  • This is a game you can play your entire life. You will meet great people and spend your time outdoors whether playing the game recreationally or competitively.

  • You can play a competitive match with someone of a different skill level.

Do you volunteer elsewhere (inside or outside of golf)?

  • SCGA Jr Foundation and a walking scorer at multiple USGA, PGA, LPGA and Champions tour events.

  • Initially to establish their Handicap Index and thereafter it’s an opportunity to participate in many different types of events, programs, etc.

  • After the round they can have a treat (i.e., ice cream, candy, soda pop, etc.)

  • You can have a match and play against anyone regardless of skill level.

  • Golf is a powerful way to understand yourself and to advance your career.

  • I serve on a variety of boards including MLK Community Hospital Foundation and the Japanese American National Museum.

  • Golf is a lifetime sport that builds character, work ethic and self determination. The golf experience exemplifies and prepares juniors for the challenges of life.

What compelled you to serve on the SCGA Board?

  • I have been involved with the SCGA for over 45 years. First as a player and later as a volunteer. I have seen how the staff and volunteers have serviced the So Cal golf community. I was extremely honored when I was asked to help lead the organization.

Why should Southland golfers join the SCGA?

  • I think most golfers associate the SCGA with the wonderful championships they run. But we provide so much more, even if you aren’t a tournament player. Handicapping, member outings, travel and equipment deals.

What would you tell juniors to interest them in the game of golf?

  • Golf is a game that lasts a lifetime. It will teach you lessons that you will use in all aspects of your life.

Favorite benefit of keeping a Handicap Index:

  • Always being able to fairly compete against another player.

Do you volunteer elsewhere (inside or outside of golf)?

  • Not recently. Business and the SCGA keep me plenty busy.

Favorite Rule of Golf?

  • Not one specific rule but the concept that the rules always the player to use their best judgment regarding where to drop a ball, even if it is later discovered to be incorrect. Keeps play moving and relieves doubt for the player.

If you could play golf with three people (dead or alive), who would they be?

  • My father one more time, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods

  • The Tap Room at Pebble Beach

  • It's a game of a lifetime, it's a great way to meet people, and it is endlessly challenging.

  • Allows me to compete against other golfers of differing abilities.

  • I do course rating work for the SCGA
