Golf Courses

Pinehurst is more than a golf resort—it’s the birthplace of American golf and a living testament to its enduring legacy. From Payne Stewart’s iconic putt at the 1999 U.S. Open to countless unforgettable moments spanning over a century, Pinehurst has been at the heart of the game’s greatest stories. Experience the best golf North Carolina has to offer on world-class courses, and create your own chapter in this remarkable tradition.

Course No. 2

Donald Ross’ legendary No. 2 at Pinehurst has hosted more championships than any other U.S. course—including the historic back-to-back U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open in 2014. Its sloping turtleback greens, sweeping fairways, and natural wiregrass and sand create a challenge as beautiful as it is iconic. Walking No. 2 means following in the footsteps of golf’s greatest legends.

Course No. 4

Pinehurst No. 4 is a visual masterpiece, crafted by Gil Hanse in the classic spirit of the North Carolina Sandhills. Following its 2018 redesign, No. 4 earned accolades as “Best New Course” and a “Top 100 Course,” and proudly hosted the 2019 U.S. Amateur. With its rolling terrain and sweeping vistas, No. 4 stands among the most breathtaking experiences at Pinehurst.

Course No. 5

In 1961, Ellis Maples—an apprentice of Donald Ross—crafted Pinehurst No. 5 with a design that embraces the natural landscape. Featuring the iconic par-3 “Cathedral Hole” and serene lake views framed by towering pines, No. 5 offers a truly picturesque experience.

Course No. 8

Opened in 1996, Pinehurst No. 8 sits on an Audubon Sanctuary, offering a serene, secluded setting. Designed by Tom Fazio, it blends the elements that define Pinehurst—beauty, simplicity, and solitude. Once ranked among the “Top 100” courses, No. 8 features expansive greens that test your short game and a landscape that glows in the afternoon light.

Course No. 10

Pinehurst No. 10 marks the resort’s first new course in nearly 30 years—and it offers a golf experience unlike any other. Tom Doak’s design showcases native wiregrass, sweeping vistas, and rolling hills, with rugged dunes shaped by early 20th-century mining operations. Every swing on No. 10 connects you to the rich history and character of Pinehurst.

The Cradle

Donald Ross famously said golf “should be a pleasure, not a penance.” Gil Hanse’s nine-hole short-course, The Cradle, embodies that spirit with creative approach angles, deep bunkers, and undulating greens that make up for its modest length. It’s a fun yet challenging test of short-game skills—set on what many call the most enjoyable 10 acres in all of golf.
